REGISTRATION OF TOWN PLANNERS
The Town Planners Act 1995 [Act 538] has prescribed that a town planner shall be registered as a registered Graduate Town Planner and registered Town Planner after fulfilling the requirements.
To perform the registration, the Board of Town Planners Malaysia has prepared a Register of Town Planners, which is accessible to the general public. The Register contains:
REGISTERED GRADUATE TOWN PLANNER
A person shall be entitled to apply as a registered Graduate Town Planner if he holds:
A registered Graduate Town Planner shall be required to obtain such practical experience as the Board may prescribe after consulting the Minister and the Pertubuhan Perancang Malaysia, in order to be entitled to apply for registration as a registered Town Planner.
REGISTERED TOWN PLANNER
A person shall be entitled, on application made by him, to be registered as registered Town Planners if he is:
A person who has been registered as a registered Town Planner is entitled to formally use the abbreviation TPr in front of his name (to be pronounced as ‘Town Planner’). The use of this title can be used in official functions but should be referred to as Town Planner and not according to the acronym Ti Pi Ar.
The application for registered Graduate Town Planner and registered Town Planner is in accordance with the forms and fees prescribed by the Board.
CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION
After the application is approved, the Board shall issue a certificate of registration in the prescribed form. The certificate is valid till the 31st December of the year it is issued and shall be renewed on the 1st January of the next year upon receiving the prescribed fees. This is in accordance with the paragraph 17(3)(a) of the Act 538.
This certificate must be renewed annually after the fee is paid and the date of issue of a renewal of the certificate of registration is fixed on each 1 January of the following year.
In accordance to Section 19 of the Act 538, it is the responsibility of a registered Graduate Town Planner and registered Town Planner to notify the Board of any change in his business address or correspondence address within fourteen days of the change.
